On May 13, the feast of Our Lady of Fátima, Colombia renewed its consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, calling for unity and collaboration on a shared national project. The Mass of Consecration, part of the Fourth National Rosary, was held at the primatial cathedral of Bogotá and presided over by Archbishop Francisco Javier Múnera, president of the Colombian Bishops’ Conference.

More than 600 faithful participated in the recitation of the Holy Rosary, accompanied by a statue of Our Lady of Fátima and a monstrance depicting the “Mutilated Christ” (armless), containing the Blessed Sacrament. Concelebrating were Bishop Emeritus Jorge Enrique Lozano Zafra of Ocaña, along with priests from the Franciscans, Dominicans, Union of the Catholic Apostolate, Maronite Exarchate, and the Archdiocese of Bogotá.

In his homily, Archbishop Múnera emphasized that consecration to Mary unifies Christian life, actualizing our baptismal consecration to Christ. He said, “The Immaculate Heart of Mary, a spotless, most pure heart, unites us closely to the heart of her Son.” He urged transformation through Christ’s meekness and humility to change the world and our relationships.

He recalled Mary’s words at Cana: “Do whatever he tells you,” calling for docility to transformation for the good of the country. “Her maternal presence opens us to hope and enables us to restore trust in one another. We are brothers and sisters; we are citizens of this beloved homeland. It’s true that we have differences, we are diverse,” he noted. He clarified, “We may even be adversaries, but never enemies.”

The archbishop called on political leaders to discern for the common good, “so that we may work toward the national project we yearn for, one characterized by justice, equity, and solidarity, and, above all, by the pursuit of truth.” He affirmed the consecration as a prayer for “hearts that open up bridges, that mend relationships, that forge new bonds, all in the service of others.”

During the consecration prayer, Archbishop Múnera said: “O Most Holy Virgin Mary, Mother of God and Mother of the Church… You know our history: our wounds, our tears, our hopes, our struggles amidst lights and shadows… Today, once again, we consecrate to you all of us Colombians… We consecrate ourselves to your Immaculate Heart.”

The event also included a call for peace: “May peace flourish which is a gift of the Holy Spirit and artisanal work of our fraternal coexistence.” The prayer concluded, “In these difficult times for Colombia, bring to the throne of God the prayer that Christ placed upon our lips: ‘Our Father, deliver us from evil.'”
